Nearly 80 percent of the world's large areas of Ancient Forests have already been destroyed, much of it in the last three decades. Of the one-fifth left, logging is the biggest single threat.
...Ancient Forests the size of Europe could be destroyed in the next few decades. An area the size of a soccer field is logged every two seconds.
Most of these forests are being threatened by large industrial logging companies. In total, 76 countries have already lost their large forest areas to make room for material things such as mansions, golf courses, parking lots.
These Ancient Forests are among the most beautiful living expression of three billion years of evolution of life creation on earth. They make up as much as 90 percent of the world's land-based species. Millions of different types of flora and fauna from owls to orchids, also bears to beetles. None of these species will survive without these large areas of trees.
Many of the animals in the forests are endangered like this tiger, who fears death by mowed land.
Ancient Forests covers barely seven percent of the world's land area. There are still many different types of terrestrial plants and animal species are still undiscovered. But because of logging they might never be discovered.
These undiscovered trees are special to scientist who are studying them.
